Gum Recession
Treating Gum Recession Early Can Help You Protect Your Smile
You may already be self-conscious about your smile or have low self-confidence because of receding gums. Many patients don’t realize that gum recession can take its toll on your self-esteem but can also have a negative impact on your oral health. Treating gum recession early can help you protect your smile. As the gums start to wear down and the shape of your gum line changes, you may notice some of the following symptoms:
- Uneven gum line
- Sensitive teeth
- Teeth that look longer or larger
- Loose teeth
- Tooth loss
Importance of Treating Gum Recession
Treating gum recession as soon as you start noticing symptoms is essential for your oral health. Dr. Eck may recommend gum recession treatment as part of your treatment plan to prevent bone loss, tooth loss, and other oral health issues. Rebuilding your gums and restoring the gum line can provide both short-term and long-term benefits. Fortunately, you have several options to rebuild the lost gum tissue and restore your smile.
Gum Recession Treatment Options
Dr. Eck can rebuild and reshape your gum line after gum tissue loss without extensive surgery. He performs traditional gum grafting procedures to treat gum recession. This procedure involves manipulating the gum tissue and gum line using either the patient’s own gum tissue or grafting materials.
Sedation Options
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as laughing gas, is administered through a soft nose mask. You’ll notice that your fears quickly float away, leaving you in a state of warm, serene comfort. Nitrous oxide gas allows you to have the dental treatment that you need, yet makes it seem as though time is passing quickly.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is the next level in sedation services, in which you can enjoy a twilight nap while your oral needs are taken care of. Rest assured that you’re in good hands, with a licensed anesthesiologist administering your medication and monitoring you at all times.
Please note that with oral and IV sedation, you’ll need to make prior arrangements for a friend or family member to take you home. However, no alternate plans need to be made with nitrous oxide gas. You’ll find the effects of sedation gas quickly dissipate within moments of completing your dental procedure.
